Lewisham Town Centre - Landsec

  • This major regeneration project includes the redevelopment of the 300,000 sqft Lewisham Shopping Centre, a number of long vacant derelict buildings including the 19 storey Lewisham House, a leisure centre and former night club, all knitted into the sensitive protection and renovation of the historic High Street.
  • The scheme is the key strategic regeneration project in the Borough and will transform the wider town centre, pushing it towards Metropolitan Centre status
  • Best in class consultation on the most recent proposals began in early 2020 and continues today with a broad range of local stakeholders and several thousand residents having their say, which has gained overwhelming support for the proposals


         The proposed scheme will deliver;

  • 8 acres of public spaces including a new park for Lewisham
  • Up to 1,700 homes including 15-20% affordable, plus additional homes for shared living and students
  • Retention of key elements the shopping centre, transformation of the high street and a more diverse retail experience.
  • The introduction of a new music and cultural venue, restaurants, bars and cafes and an ehanced market.

Role

Mike built and led the team that continues to negotiate with local stakeholders to deliver a genuine transformation of Lewisham Town Centre.


Values in this part of London and an extremely  complex shopping centre site, that needs to remain operational throughout, have to date prevented regeneration of this key town centre site.


However, a collaborative approach between Landsec and Lewisham Council, alongside best in class public consultation, has enabled viable options to be progressed which can now finally deliver a new town centre for everyone in Lewisham and beyond.
